Council Tax refund scam warning

There is a nation-wide scam advising residents, by phone or email, that they have paid too much Council Tax and are due a refund. If you receive a phone call or message about a Council Tax refund and are asked for your card or bank details, it’s a scam. Hang up the phone immediately. If you receive an email or text message, delete it. Report scam messages or emails to the police on the Action Fraud website. Contact your bank immediately if you have already given out your bank details or think someone has used your details fraudulently. If you think you are due a refund contact the Council Tax team directly.
